Four Peaks (more info)

Four Peaks on 8th street east of Dorsey has bags on Sunday through Wednesday nights space permitting. They close the back section at about 9pm unless the brewery is too busy, then they set up the bags court after the last customers have left. It’s typically around 10pm, sometimes earlier, often later. If you show up and would like to play but the court is not set up, see a manager or bartender such as Ryan, Matt, or Terry. The staff is very supportive of bags players and many of them play as well, but keep in mind that it’s a courtesy and is not always practical when business is heavy.

Majerles (Chandler)

Majerles just outside Chandler Fashion Mall has bags on the bocce ball court most all the time. It’s a nice level area, good boards, usually decent bags, and there are often other players for pick-up games. It’s one of our favorite places to play, and one of the few places that’s reliably available on a busy night like Fridays or Saturdays. See bartender for bags.

Phillys (more info)

Philly’s on Scottsdale road just south of McKellips has bags courts set up on the patio most of the time. It’s generally less crowded and easy to get a pick-up game. If the court is not set up, ask the bartender. The patio has heaters and fire pits for colder nights. Boards are ok, bags usually are pretty beat up and we recommend you bring your own if you can. The one downside to Phillys is that the patio has a slant toward the street that make it challenging to play at a high level when using slick boards and bags.

Temple Bar

Temple Bar is Located at Bell and Thomson Peak Pkwy in North Scottsdale on the NW corner. They play outdoors on a covered patio with plenty of space. Many good players frequent this bar. We bring our own boards and bags. Last time up there the boards were a bit beat up.

Jersey’s

The old Copper Canyon location on Kyrene and Ray in south Tempe. They set up Baggo courts indoors (20ft w/lighter bags). They hold blind draw tournaments on Saturdays at 2pm and Thursday nights at 10:30. The tournaments are $5 per person buy-in, 100% payout winner take all, double elimination. They often go quickly and repeat up to three times.

The Monastery

In east Mesa by Falcon field. They have some homemade boards and unusual sets but also welcome you to bring your own.

Dos Gringos

Dos Gringos on 8th Street just east of Rural has bags, close quarters, short field.

Barney’s Boathouse

Barney’s is in Tempe on University and Forest. They have a cornhole set-up along the west side of the building. It’s very short. The boards are small (tailgate size). There’s an overhead bar in the way. And the bags are half-weight popcorn-filled. So the conditions are poor for competition, but the atmosphere is fun.

Macayo’s Depot Cantina

No report on conditions.

Cactus Jack’s

Cactus Jack’s is on Elliot Rd. and 48th street. They play indoors with homemade boards and homemade full weight bags. The ceiling is high enough to play though a bit cramped. You can pull out the boards and play anytime the area is open (no band, poker, etc.)

The Lodge

The Lodge is located in downtown Scottsdale just south of Camelback Rd between Rural and Hayden. They play on the patio most nights other than Friday and Saturday. It’s full 27′, decent boards, bags are quite beat up. The area is great with plenty of room and accessible for getting pick-up games. The one issue here is a very severe slant that makes it difficult to play at a high level with click boards and bags.

A-Town Tavern

The A-Town Tavern is located at about 40th and Ray in Ahwahtukee. They have two areas on the patio where bags can be played. One is adjacent to the horseshoe pit and the other is just south of there (if tables are moved). The boards are homemade and bags are a variety of weights, not optimal for competition.

Majerles (Avondale)

Majerles in Avondale is on our list to visit. They have a 27′ court when not too busy. Unlike the one in Chandler, they make room for it by moving tables, but we hear it’s usually set up.

First Round Draft

First Round Draft (McQueen & Warner in Gilbert) sets up indoor bags on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. They play on real boards with real (but light) bags at about 22′ . The ceiling is a bit low but conditions are good otherwise. There are a whole group of regulars who play Wednesday nights at about 10:30. They’re pretty good players and good guys.

Other places

Sammy’s: On the West side, we’ve only been there for tournaments which are great. Outdoors, nice patio.

Salty Seniority: North west side. Very poor boards/bags, we bring our own and set up in back. Fun place.

Hamburger Factory: Encanto area. Poor conditions and equipment but has potential.
